A lucky granddaughter

Grandma loved all her family with all her heart and soul. Some of my favorite memories of her are from the days when she used to take care of me in the afternoons when everyone in the house was working. Grandma traveled a long way to watch me when we lived on Corsa Avenue. Even when she was tired or had allergies she would sit with me play with me watch a game shows - she always enjoyed our time together. But the best part by far were our afternoon walks. No matter how tired she was she would always give in to my asking her to walk to the local pizza shop so I could get those little colored chiclet gum squares of the little 25 cent machines. After getting the gum we would walk to a small walking bridge overlooking some train tracks to wait to see if a train passed. I swear almost every afternoon we caught a train passing underneath! Then we would make the walk back home, where soon after someone would show up from work and grandma would start her way home. And what is wonderful about this memory, is that is was as important to grandma as it was to me. Even when she was starting to get more confused, and even though in her mind the train tracks we used to walk to became "el rio" she still always talked about those days until she could no longer talk anymore. She used to tease me and ask why I used to bug her so much - but she did so with a big smile and big kisses. There are many memories I'll never forget - our pre-dinner merengue dances in her kitchen, her ability to be the master at tickling even though she wasn't ticklish herself, the love we shared for Juanes, but most importantly, afternoons walking hand in hand to see a train go by. I end this memory as Grandma would end our dinner evenings; as I walked out the door she would always grab me to sing this song: "I love you, I love you, I love you lord today. Because you cared for me, in such a special way. That's why I love you. I live you, and I sanctify your name. That's why my heart is filled with praise." I love you Grandma, and I know you are in peace beside The Lord you loved so much. Thank you for your years of love. Rebecca.
