Traditional Funeral Service with Burial/Entombment

Traditional Funeral Services with Burial/Entombment

The traditional funeral service is still the most common type of funeral ceremony held in many parts of the country. At a traditional funeral service, the casket is present. A visitation will be held where family and friends will gather to often share stories and memories. They are often religious in nature.

The Components of a Traditional Funeral Service:

Here are the general components that make up this package.
1. Visitation:
This is also called a viewing or a wake. Guests come pay their respects to the deceased and the immediate family. The casket can be open or closed. Often the visitation is split up into two periods with one taking place in the afternoon from about 2-5 pm and the other taking place in the evening from around 7-9 pm. These times are not set in stone and can be adjusted based on the needs and wishes of each family. Recently, many families have decided to have one session of visitation straight through from 3-8 pm. Sisto Funeral Home haves an ideal facility to hold the visitation but we can also arrange for it to take place at another location.

2. Funeral Service:
The actual funeral ceremony is often held at a church, but we can also hold the funeral service at our facility. A funeral service often includes music, the reading of religious or literary passages, the eulogy, prayers, and the singing of hymns. The structure of the ceremony depends on your wishes and religious beliefs. Proper preparation for the funeral service is crucial.

3. Committal Service:
This stage refers to the vehicle procession to the cemetery and the actual interment/entombment of the deceased. There is some flexibility when it comes to this stage. Families choose whether they would like the casket lowered into the grave at this time, and they also decide if they want a short service or some final prayers to be said.

4. Funeral Reception:
Many families choose to have a gathering for guests after all the formal ceremonies have concluded. This is a time to share memories of the deceased and offer continued support for the immediate family.

All these components do not need to be included or followed exactly as described above. There some flexibility in terms of each family's wants and needs.
