SELENE TRAVERS WAS BORN ON JANUARY 19TH 1931 IN HARLEM TO HER PARENTS HENRY BARROW AND SUSIE SHEPHARD. SHE HAD 2 SISTERS AND 4 BROTHERS WHO ALL PREDECEASED HER. DURING HER TIME AT P.S.68 SHE MET" RUTHIE" IN ADDITION TO MANY OTHER LIFE LONG FRIENDS. UPON ATTENDING SEWARD PARK H.S. SHE MET THE LOVE OF HER LIFE JAMES (JIMMY) TRAVERS. SHE WENT TO WORK AT METROPOLITAN LIFE INSURANCE CO. WHILE JIMMY WAS IN THE KOREAN WAR. WHEN JIMMY RETURNED FROM THE KOREAN WAR THEY WERE MARRIED IN 1954 AND STAYED TOGETHER FOR 62 YEARS! OUT OF THIS MARRIAGE THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN. FROM 1964 - 1996 SELENE WORKED PART TIME AT CITY COLLEGE IN THE REGISTRAR'S OFFICE AND RETIRED TO TAKE CARE OF HER GRANDSON JOHN. SHE LOVED HER FAMILY AND HAD THE ABILITY TO FIND THE GOOD IN EVERYONE! SHE LOVED THE LORD, ASSISTED IN ALL ACTIVIES OF THE CHURCH, AND GAVE HER PERSONAL ASSISTANCE TO FREINDS AND NEIGHBORS.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER SON PHILLIP, DAUGHTERS ANN & DONNA, GRANDSON JOHN,
DAUGHTER-IN -LAW PATRICIA, SISTER- IN- LAWS LORRAINE & META, NEICE LAUREL,NEPHEW DERRICK, GOD DAUGHTER DEBBIE, GODSONS BRIAN & JAMES AND A HOST OF NEICES, NEPHEWS GRAND NEICES, GRAND NEPHEWS, IN LAWS, FAMILY AND FRIENDS
