She was a good friend and great lady. I'll miss her. Her smile lit up a room. She always had something nice to say about everyone. The world has lost a great person. Joan knit the most amazing sweaters for her friends and some nights at the Meadowlands you could see 5 or 6 people wearing Joan’s sweaters. Joan teased my husband that the reason our grandsons were so cute was because they were “half Italian”. We had a long running joke. Ted came home from Liberty Bell Park and asked how I got home before him. I said I never left the house. He insisted Joan Bassi said I was out in her car. I asked Joan why she would tell him that and she said he didn’t ask for me, he asked if Mother was with her...and her Mother was out in the car. She didn’t realize he referred to me as Mother. When I spoke to her recently she said “ask Ted if he found mother”. And then she laughed her famous laugh. I used to watch the Freehold races on TV and if Ted won I’d see Joan and Sal in the winner’s circle with him.
