Bronx, New York, Giovanni “John” Pirrone, long-time resident of the Bronx, died on January 16, 2017 at the age of 78. John is survived by loving wife Connie, daughter Josephine, son Frank, son-in-law Preston, daughter-in-law Lori, and five grandchildren: John, James, Blake, CeCe, and Frank.

John was born on June 22, 1938 in Corleone, Italy to Giuseppina Ferrera and Francesco Pirrone. John dutifully served in the Italian army as a stenographer. He lived and worked in Switzerland and Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1967. He met the love of his life and wife, Concetta Cardillo and was married on December 8, 1968 at Mount Carmel Church in the Bronx.

John successfully operated and owned Giovanni’s Delicatessen in Country Club for over twenty-three years. He was proud to be a member of the community where he was loved and admired not only as a fine businessman, but mostly as a wonderful friend and neighbor.

In 1999, John was honored by the New York State Senate as for his dedication and devotion to the community. John had a long-time involvement in civic affairs including holding the position of president of the Unione Sportiva Corleone Club in Bronx, New York. Unione Sportiva named John “Man of the Year” for his leadership, competence, and intelligence.

John was an excellent marksman and enjoyed hunting. He loved his pet dogs and cats. John enjoyed traveling with his wife, Connie, especially to the Caribbean during his retirement years.

Visitation will be held at Sisto Funeral Home in the Bronx, on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM and Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 10 Am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Entombment will follow at Saint Raymond's Cemetery.
