Obituary for Carmela Amabile

Carmela Amabile
Carmela “Millie” Cascone Amabile, loving wife of the late Mario Amabile, formerly of New York and Monroe, CT, passed away on February 29, 2016 in Pinehurst, NC. Born in New York on May 11, 1927 to the late Sebastiano and Antoinette Cascone; Millie lived most of her life in “The Bronx”.

After her beloved Mario passed away in 1988, Millie relocated to Connecticut. She happily shared in the fun of all her children and grandchildren’s activities. Holidays were all the more wonderful when family members enjoyed everything that was prepared in “Millie’s kitchen”. Her apple turnovers were considered “legendary”! Millie was also an accomplished seamstress and also loved to knit and crochet. She loved to travel, especially to Disneyworld.

Millie is survived by her devoted daughters, Barbara Leoncini and her husband, Louis of Seven Lakes, NC, Marie Homa and her husband, William of Pinehurst, NC and Linda Schreiber of Holtsville, NY. She will be deeply missed by cherished grandchildren, Michael and Yukiko Leoncini, Brian and Jessica Leoncini, Steven and Tara Fellmeth, Kristina and Greg Walsh, David and Bernadette Schreiber, and Peter Schreiber; and great grandchildren, Ena Leoncini and George Schreiber. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Schreiber.

Friends may greet the family at the Sisto Funeral Home, 3489 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, New York on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 8:30-11:30AM. Interment will follow immediately afterward at St. Raymond’s Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Brookdale Carolina House and FirstHealth Hospice House for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers Millie’s family requests that donations may be made in her memory to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road Pinehurst, NC 28374.
