Br. Fabian Mayor, Marist Brother and Educator
Brother Fabian (Thomas) Mayor, FMS, a member of the Marist Brothers for 60 years, died at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, on July 7, 2017. He was 78 years old.
A native of Lawrence, Massachusetts and a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956, Br. Fabian entered the Marist novitiate in Tyngsboro receiving the habit as a brother in 1957. He pronounced his perpetual vows in 1963. He received a Bachelor degree from Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY in 1965 and a Master degree in History from St. John’s University, Queens, NY in 1969.
For most of his religious life Br. Fabian served as a teacher in several schools in the United Stated including in Massachusetts, West Virginia, Oregon, New York, Illinois, and Florida. Br. Fabian also served in international educational settings in Japan, the Philippines, and China.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on July 15 at Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Chapel, on the campus of Marist College, Poughkeepsie. Burial followed at the Marist Brothers Cemetery in Esopus, NY.
