Obituary for Victor M. Net

Victor M. Net

Few individuals loved life more, had a zest for all things new and exciting, and cherished his family than Victor Manuel Net, Sr. We are saddened to say that Victor passed away on November 12, 2016 at the age of 69 at Calvary Hospital in New York City with beloved members of his family near him.

Victor was born to Petra Forbes and Victor Manuel Net, both of Puerto Rico, on November 18, 1946. He spent his early years living in the Bronx with his two younger brothers, George Samuel Forbes and Elket Montgomery Forbes (who passed away). An avid bird collector, Victor was known in his early years for the pigeon coops he managed on the rooftop of his apartment home. He married Juanita M. Net as a young man and fathered two children, Victor Jr. and Samantha. Both Victor Jr. and Samantha have families and provided Victor Sr. with seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Miriam Muléy-Forbes and Lynda Forbes (who passed away), several nieces, nephews and cousins who loved and respected him. Victor married Juana (Jennie) Rosa Net in 2003. She has been his wife and caretaker until the end of his life, on November 12, 2016.

A long-time employee of the U.S. government, Victor retired after 27 years of outstanding service for the U.S. Postal Service as a Supervisor at the Morgan Street Station Post Office. His co-workers characterized him as hard-working, dependable and a good leader. After retirement, Victor took a greater interest in his hobbies, which included swimming, bowling, softball and dancing. He was a long-standing member of the Spanish American Club in Co-Op City where Victor lived (1970 - 2016). In fact, among the many who enjoyed the Co-Op City "Latin Nights", he was known as the "Salsero." Victor also became an entrepreneur following retirement, with businesses as a handyman - no job was too small or too big for Victor - and as the first "uber" in the Bronx, providing transportation to local community residents to church, train stations and other local venues.

Victor leaves many family and friends behind to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life and legacy. Although he suffered from a debilitating illness, Victor Manuel Net, Sr. will be remembered as a loving, joyful spirit, full of love and excitement, an everyday man who worked hard to care for his family and give them the very best, as someone who loved the holidays with family around him, and who took every opportunity to live life to the fullest.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 2-5 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated by Pastor Reverend Magaly Deltre. Cremation wil take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at The Woodlawn Crematory.
