Providencia “Prudy” Irizarry was a beloved grandmother and mother during her incredible 101 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Prudy was born March 1, 1921, to Juan Irizarry and Maria Providencia Rios Irizarry in Lares, Puerto Rico. She was one of eight siblings. At the age of 25, she moved to New York and there she built the foundation for the rest of her life. Prudy was a talented seamstress and devoted homemaker. She dedicated herself to her family and cherished spending time together. Prudy loved butterflies, Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds, making pastelles with her family, DIY arts and crafts, making something beautiful out of the usual, singing, dancing, good coffee, eating anything sweet and giving advice to her children and grandchildren.

Prudy will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jennie Gerano, Mary Leon, Mercedes Crespo and Iris Crespo. She was a proud grandma and loving “Mama” to her grandchildren, Michelle Gazzetti, Russell Gazzetti, Frank Gerano, Jennifer Leon-Zupan and Kelly Leon.

We will miss our Prudy dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with her. We will always feel her presence in our hearts.
