Obituary for O'Neal Alfonso Grell

O’Neal Alfonso Grell was born on May 8th, 1982 in New York City to Alicia Magloire and O’Neal Dexter Grell, and was brought home to his big sister Christina.

O’Neal spent his childhood years living in New York City and in New Jersey with his Uncle Alex, Aunt Celeste and cousins Alex Jr., Eric, and Ashley. After graduating from John F. Kennedy High School, he went on to spend one semester at SUNY Cobleskill in New York. He then went on to Virginia to work and spend time with his father, before most recently relocating to warmer pastures in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

O’Neal was a jack of all trades. He was a handyman, taxi driver, line cook, messenger, and more. When he was not working, he was happiest spending time at the beach or a pool, or fishing, and playing golf and video games, or simply watching basketball.

O’Neal was the life of the party wherever he went, and he wanted everyone to have a great time. He loved hard, to a fault at times, but everyone who knew him, knew that if anyone needed anything, he would be there for them.

O’Neal was a kind soul, never hesitating to make everyone around him feel welcomed. He would do anything for a laugh and always enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Anyone who truly knew him, knew he had such a big heart. He’d give you anything even if it wasn’t his to give. He could make you laugh even when you were mad at him. He could make fun of both situations and people, but never in a malicious way. He even made fun of mom’s accent and when she pointed out that she had been in this country for so long that she no longer has an accent, he went on to demonstrate to her how she spoke.

O’Neal meant more to his family and friends than he ever understood. He loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that O’Neal is now at peace surrounded by light.

O’Neal is survived by his parents Alicia and Dexter, siblings Christina, Lashelle, Kizhmar, Damien, Lisa and a host of loving extended family members and friends.
