Obituary for Marissa Collazo

A Celebration of Life
Marissa Collazo
May 27, 1958 – January 17, 2019

Marissa Collazo, 60, of Bronx, NY passed away on Thursday January 17, 2019. Marissa was born in New York City, NY, May 27, 1958.
Marissa graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1976. She attended Queensborough Community College where she studied general office occupations and clerical services. Throughout her professional pursuits she became District Sales Administrator for Radio Shack and Sales Office Administrator for Bob’s Discount Furniture. Marissa began her career with the NYPD in January of 2014 and was assigned to the 047 Precinct. She was recognized as a dedicated and exemplary employee who always went above and beyond her duties to help whenever needed. She was named “a perfect addition to the 47th” and appreciated by all.
Marissa was a loving and caring mother and father to her son Angelo. She was Angelo’s first baseball coach and helped teach him how to play the sport during his early childhood years until he was an adolescent. Marissa and Angelo were known to be avid fans of the Yankees. In recent years, she was proud to see Angelo graduate from Empire State College, get married, become father to a beautiful baby boy, swear into The City of Peekskill Police Department and join The Westchester County Police Academy.
As an art, nature and dog enthusiast Marissa had many gifts and talents. For starters, she loved to cook for her friends and family. The holidays were truly a special time for her to share some of her signature dishes which included Pasteles and Habichuelas Guisadas. She brought life to any party or gathering through her soulful cooking which usually occurred while dancing to a heartfelt salsa record. Marissa also became quite adept at knitting and crocheting. As of late, she spent many hours making clothes, quilts and other items for her new grandson. Her “Green Thumb” left no plant or flower wanting. If it grew, or bloomed, it flourished when exposed to her nurturing. When it came to dogs Marissa never met one that she didn’t love, and the feeling was mutual. She frequently encountered those rescued by the 047 Precinct. It was her tender loving care for dogs that led her to meet and adopt “Baby,” they were a perfect match.
Marissa is survived by her son Angelo Cintron, daughter-in-law Allana Marie Brown Cintron, 4-month-old grandson Angelo Tobias Cintron, mother Carmen Rodriguez, sisters Lillian Rivera and Doris Negron, longtime companion Phil Lesnak, rescue dog “Baby” who gave her much joy, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
