Maria Abbandonato, age 89, passed on Monday, July 18, 2022. Born in Bella, Potenza, Basilicata, Italy, Maria married Victor Abbandonato in 1956, and moved from Bella to Manhattan. Settling in the Bronx a few years later, she lived in the Bronx the rest of her life. She worked at Westchester Square Hospital for 35 years, while raising her family as well. She was happiest in the kitchen, cooking and baking, and spending time with friends and family. She is survived by her three children, Mary, Phyllis, and Victor, along with 2 grandchildren, Gregory and Joseph, and 1 great grandchild, Vince. She is also survived by her son, daughter in law, along with several siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Funeral services will take place at Sisto Funeral Home in the Bronx, NY on Wednesday, July 20th from 2-8pm. Burial services will be at St. Raymond Cemetery, following a 10am funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Church in Morris Park.
