Obituary for Manuel A. Smith

Manuel A. Smith was born June 5, 1957 at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, NY. He was the 8th child of Bernita “Jamailah” Smith.
Manny had 5 brothers and 6 sisters whom he loved dearly but was extremely close with his older brother Marlowe. Their bond was unbreakable and because you rarely saw one without the other; they became affectionately known as “Marlowe and Manuel” to family and friends. If you saw one you would always ask for the other.
Manuel finished his primary education at John Bowne High School in Queens, NY. He attended Bronx Community College with his older brother Marlowe. He worked at The Covenant House in New York and later transitioned to the Department of Juvenile Justice where he held several positions.
He was very loving and caring with a contagious spirit that always made you laugh. He loved music of all genres and even if you never saw him dancing if you looked down you would see that foot of his swinging away while bobbing his leg. He gave so much love to his family, friends and especially his pride and joy, his wonderful children and adorable grandchildren. Manny was the type of person that if you were sad and down he would encourage you and cheer you up. He lived his life to the fullest. Even the 2020 Corona Virus pandemic didn’t stop his flow. But on Feb. 9, 2021 this devoted son, brother, uncle, father coworker and friend departed this life peacefully in his sleep.
