Obituary for Luis Lopez

Luis López-Tufiño was born on October 10, 1936 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico to Candida Tufiño and Juan López. At the age of seventeen, after graduating from Fajardo High School, he was drafted to the United States Army and served in the Korean War.

After serving his country for four years, he decided to move to New York and start his new life. While living in New York, he would eventually meet his wife, Fanny Rivera-López and the two of them got married on October 20, 1962. They later had two children, Louis Armando López and Lynne Anissa López.

Luis López was a State Correction Officer at Sing Sing Correctional Facility for twenty years. After retiring from being a Correction Officer, Luis was able to do the job he loved most--being a grandfather. Luis López was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Mariah Ariel Martínez, Louis Armando López, Alanis Lynne López, Gregory Luis Martínez, and Lucas Armando López.

Luis enjoyed swimming, building, wordsearches, making jokes, and playing dominoes, but most importantly, he loved being with his grandchildren. He was lovingly known as "Papi" by his children and grandchildren.

On October 31, 2022, we lost an amazing father and incredible grandfather when he was called home to heaven. He is survived by his two children and five grandchildren.
