Obituary for Joseph A. Davis

Only God knows why Joseph A. Davis was called home at this time. Perhaps there is a chapel in heaven in need of repair.

Joseph A. Davis was born in St. Johns, Antigua. In 1958 he was awarded a scholarship to attend a trade school for carpentry and woodwork in Puerto Rico where he met his wife, Leonor Berrios Davis. They fell in love and married the following year. They had 3 daughters Evelyn, Sandra and Ivonne.

It was shortly after that they moved to New York. Joseph continued his work as a carpenter. He became a proud member of the Carpenter’s Union and worked on many construction projects throughout New York City including the 1973 renovation of Yankee Stadium. Being an avid Yankee fan that was his favorite assignment. He continued to also be passionate about his birth country, Antigua. He had family and maintained many close friends there. So, it is of no surprise that he started his own construction company there, J.A. Davis Contracting LTD. His company was successful and did many jobs but the one he was most proud of is the work he did restoring St. John Cathedral. The cathedral’s renovation was special to him and he would light up whenever he spoke of it.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, his two daughters Sandra Perez and Ivonne Pollick. Their spouses Robert Perez and Edward Pollick. His three grandchildren Robert Ivan, Ivelisse and Lissette and two great grandchildren Maribel and Jayden. His siblings Mary, Leonard, Hilda, Ursula, Kathi and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Joseph was predeceased by his daughter Evelyn Linette and his siblings Nora and Lauchland.

Joseph A. Davis will be long remembered as an industrious individual. He was forever searching for something he could repair, build or improve. He took great pride in helping others. He is no longer by our side but will be forever in our hearts. Until we meet again.
