Obituary for John Charles Charles Megarr III, MD

Dr. John Charles Megarr III, age 63 of New York, passed away on August 3, 2020 following complications of the heart.

He was born in Queens, NY, on November 23rd, 1956. John graduated from Floral Park Memorial High School then continued his studies at SUNY Brockport, graduating with a BS in Biology. He then went on to obtain an MS in Biology at Adelphi University. Graduating then from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Medical School and Residency at Mount Sinai, in preparation to serve others in the medical field.

Dr. Megarr was a dedicated physician with a career that spanned over 30 years, specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He most recently practiced at Doctors United, and was passionate and devoted to his work with the VA Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. He was also an attending physician and academic instructor at New York Medical College for over 10 years.

He loved spending time with his daughter, Sarah where her successes were his most cherished accomplishment. John had many passions besides medicine. He was a wrestler and an actor in high school. He was a black belt in the martial art of judo. He was an avid biker and loved to build customized bikes and race. He was a marathon runner and an international chess player. He worked on Wall Street in the ‘80s reporting on silver and gold prices. He loved music and the occasional Hostess Ho-Ho cake.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Megarr Raitt-Forrest; son in law, Spencer Raitt-Forrest; siblings: Beth, Ken, Bruce, Joyce. Nieces and nephews: Matt, Ryan, Elisa, Emily, Emily and Samantha. And of course his faithful dog Roscoe. Dr. Megarr was preceded in passing by parents Arden Dorothy Megarr and John Megarr, Jr.

There will be a celebration of life scheduled and announced at a later date. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Megarr’s patients, colleagues and friends for your love and support.

Memorial contributions may be sent to VA Medical Centers or the American Heart Association, organizations that were very special to John.

All the staff at Doctors United loved Dr. Megarr. He was always so happy and never one to complain. He did his best to help all the patients and we will all feel the loss of his passing. Dr. Megarr gave his service to our country as well as mankind. He was a remarkable doctor/
