Obituary for Earl "Mully" Rogers

Earl Benjamin “Mully” Rogers was born on April 1, 1959, to his parents Hayes Earl Rogers and Juanita Victoria Merritt. He was a loving brother to Diana, Juanita, Wayne and LeeAnn.

He was born and raised in the Throggs Neck area of the Bronx, New York. He graduated from Herbert H. Lehman High School and later, Bronx Community College. In high school, Earl became a well-liked member of their football and baseball teams. An unfortunate knee injury in high school injury ended his athletic career.

Earl loved to drive and after college, he maintained a long career as a bus driver for New York Bus Service. Later, he obtained a position with the New York City Housing Authority as a seasonal employee. This position led to a permanent position as a groundskeeper within the New York City Housing Projects in Throggs Neck. Earl was promoted several times within this position and became the supervisor of this department within a few years. He held the position as a Grounds Supervisor for over 30 years.

As a lifelong resident of the Throggs Neck community, Earl was very well known and beloved. He has many ties to the community and will be remembered as someone who was always was willing to help others, whether that be with employment, a ride, money, or support. He was a die hard, devoted fan of The Mets. The Jets and The Knicks - no matter how distressing their season may have been. Earl loved to spend time with his family and ride his motorcycle in his free time.

Earl was an animal lover and enjoyed boisterous banter with anyone who would engage with him. He will be remembered as being a fun-loving, humorous man who had a big heart.

Earl is survived by his family, including old sisters, Diana, Juanita, and his young sister Lee Ann, his nieces and nephews, Thurston (TJ), Courtney, Kimberly, Tiffany, Tamiiya, Kaylee and Christopher. He leaves behind his cat, Goldie and as well as a host of close family and lifelong friends.
