Dorothy Margaret Hughes Lawrence

Dorothy Lawrence, 90, passed away on December 12, 2018 in The Bronx, New York. She was born August 8, 1923 in Kennebunkport, Maine, the daughter of Enoch and Lula Hughes.

She married Delton Eugene Lawrence in 1946 and settled in Bangor, Maine. In 1950 they moved to Carmel, Maine and raised six children. They were married 36 years when Delton pre-deceased her. She, then, moved to the Bronx and remained there with her daughter Judith and son-in-law Frank who later became her caregivers.

Dorothy attended Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine and Zion Bible Institute in Providence, Rhode Island.

She worked in the dietary departments of City Hospital and Beal College in Bangor, Maine.

She was a dedicated homemaker living on a small farm canning, pickling and preserving garden vegetables and orchard fruits. She was especially talented in baking desserts.

Throughout her life she was active in the Christian church singing, playing the piano, teaching Sunday School and VBS. For thirty years in Van Nest Assembly of God, she was an active member of Women's Fellowship, Prime Timers, and Tuesday Prayer meeting. She became part of the ministries started by her daughter, Judith, and son-in-law, Frank, "New Creations in Christ" and the homeless ministry.

Starting in 2011, until she was no longer able, she attended Calvary Lutheran Church in her neighborhood.

She was pre-deceased by her husband; her parents, her brothers, George, Manford, Sheldon, Harold and Donald.

Surving are her six children Linda Lou Blum of Springfield, Vermont; Delores Ann Craig of Bangor, Maine and Naples, Florida; Judith Elaine Stefano of the Bronx, New york; Delton Eugene Lawrence Jr. of Waimanalo, Hawaii; Priscilla Ruth Pelletier of Laconia, New Hampshire; Angela Mae Brawn of Lincoln, Maine and Cape Coral, Florida. She had nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
