Obituary for Barbara E. Bartolotta

Mom, Grandma, Mom Mom, Aunt Barbara passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, surrounded by immediate family and supported by the thoughts and prayers of many.
Daughter of Lucy and Sal Tartaglione, Barbara was an adoring mother to John and Dana. She was a loving mother-in-law to Elizabeth and Vic, and grandmother to her 6 grandsons, Max, Zac, Johnny, Matthew, Sam and Ray. She was the devoted sister to Marian, Lucille and Anthony and Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Barbara was a loving companion and friend to Tony.
Barbara spent 28 years as medical secretary at Montefiore where she was well known and admired. She loved her job and her co-workers. She walked to work every day singing the song Smile.
She was a huge Yankee fan, particularly fond of Mariano, Bernie, Gerardi and Tino – and Jeter, of course. When she wasn’t watching the Yankees, she was watching one of her grandson’s baseball, basketball or soccer games or going to a talent show, concert or recital. She made most of them.
Barbara was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She was a fighter and a survivor. She conquered breast cancer and spent 15 years raising money and awareness – walk after walk. She put up a fierce fight over the last two and a half years.
Above all, Barbara had an infectious personality. She was enthusiastic about everything, made everyone feel special, because to her, you were. And she smiled – a lot.
A special thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses, counselors and administrators at Montefiore and Calvary Hospital, many of them colleagues and friends, that provided invaluable, life-extending care.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019, from 3-8 PM at Sisto Funeral Home, 3489 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10 AM at Saint Francis Xavier Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s name to Montefiore Medical Center, https://www.montefiore.org/supportmontefiore. Please designate Dr. Balazs Halmos, lung cancer research for donations.
