Obituary for Ann Travers Thompson

Ann Travers-Thompson was the middle child of three children born on June 27, 1960 in The Bronx, to her parents James A. Travers and Selene Barrow. As a youth she played the violin and attended Music and Art High School. Her continued love of music caused her to to amass a collection of over 2000 albums and CD's. She attended every musical concert, Jazz, R&B, Gospel etc.(no matter where it was) she could. Since she was an avid reader,it helped her with her job working in the Hunter College Social Work Library for 40 years. She was a friend and mentor to many people at the college. Often, she would say a person approached her on the street and said, "I know you". and her response would be" are you a Social Worker"? Cooking was a specialty of hers causing family and friends to wait in anticipation for her famous lasagna and pound cakes. Over the years she became the official family chauffeur and nurse having taken care of every family member at one time or another. But the one title she excelled in was mother. She loved her son John dearly and was determined and succeeded in insuring he received a proper education and was well versed in all aspects of life. This was not an easy job and her sacrifice won out in the end. They along with Auntie Donna went to many seminars, trips, vacations and visits. Ann loved movies from the 70's and her and John would binge watch them. The love they have for each other is unmatched and will always be remembered. When Ann became ill in 2022, sister-in-law Patricia escorted her to every Doctor appointment and therapy treatment and insured that her condition was explained by the Doctors clearly. "Goodtime Ann" will truly be missed. Ann is survived by Son John, Brother Phillip, Sister Donna, Sister-in-Law Patricia, Goddaughter Niree, Aunts Ermine, Joan, Meta, and Ruth and a host of cousins, family and friends. May she rest in peace.
